I am Founder & CEO of VO.DO. We are a media distribution, crowdfunding and attention-sourcing network. We currently reach an audience of around 1m and raise around $30,000 per-film in direct audience sponsorship. I am also BitTorrent Inc.’s resident Media Evangelist, travelling the world extolling the benefits of P2P distribution for filmmakers, producers and funders.
Previously, I was producer of the STEAL THIS FILM series, which has been downloaded over 6m times via P2P. We were happy that the film played its part in the emergence of discussions around new models for distributing cultural works online. With VODO, I am now focused on realising the benefits of free-to-share culture for emerging creators.
I continue to make films when I have time. I finished my first fiction feature, Dark Fibre, in 2010, and this is being distributed by Babel Networks in series form as we work on the feature edit for festivals. I am also preparing a book on peer to peer culture to be published by Flammarion in 2011.
My distant background is in writing and academia. I hold a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Southampton, and have been an editor at Mute Magazine and a writer for ITN. I have been interested in the Internet for a long, long time.
I was wondering how long you had this url. I went to probably a decade ago and it got me interested in blogging, web design, etc. I was wondering if you were still the young man I use to read about then.
